It is hard to say how complex the page will be - the existing WP site is poorly structured and has very long pages. I'm helping the client to explore how the new site can be better structured. He immediately spotted that the WP draft mode feature is not present in Joomla. We will be able to improve the site structure so the need for draft mode may be reduced.
If he clones the article and then publishes the clone, surely any internal links based on the article Id will still point to the old article? eg <a href="index.php?Itemid=120">xxxxxxxx</a> He would also need to remember to update the Alias of the replacement article to be the same as the Alias of original article.
My best option so far seems to create the changeable content in a custom module that is loaded into the article, clone and edit the module, then swap the module Id in <p>{loadmoduleid 112}</p>
